What to do once an assignment is confirmed
Let RedR know that you are leaving and provide:
departure date
best estimate of return date
contact details in the field
contact details in the agency
contact details of family just in case
Use RedR's library resources to undertake any technical or area background
research. RedR's offices library holds past technical reports for most
RedR assignments.
Note down the contact details for RedR's Technical Support Service (TSS) (techsupport@redr.org)
Prior to the briefing with the Agency
Do not hesitate to contact the Agency for information especially regarding the security, living and health conditions in the country of assignment before you attend any briefing - ask them to send you any available information immediately.
Health

Vaccinations - double check you have everything for the country/countries of assignment - will the agency be able to help with any vaccinations you still need or should you contact your doctor immediately? See vaccination advice |

Malaria prophylaxis and other special medical requirements - check what is required for the assignment country and obtain sufficient supplies of the appropriate drugs yourself unless you are sure the agency will provide them. |
Insurance

Will the Agency be providing adequate health and accident cover, including medical evacuation? See insurance advice |
Personal
|
|
Leave your contact details (RedR, the Agency, the duty station etc.) with family and friends |
| Arrange for forwarding/holding of mail | |
| Decide how to deal with your email | |
| Revise the message on your answer phone | |
| Pay outstanding bills and make arrangements for paying bills while you are away | |

|
Pay off any credit card balance - consider leaving in credit if you will be using the card in the field |
| Cancel newspapers and the milk, and work out what to do with the cat........ |
