The insurance cover for relief workers varies from agency to agency and within each agency depending on the type of contract.

People In Aid’s reports "Under Cover" and "Under Cover 2" highlight these variations for UK agencies.

There is no accepted minimum cover and the needs of each individual will of course vary. Ultimately each individual is responsible for deciding whether the insurance cover is adequate for their particular situation.

Remember to check whether the validity of any of your existing insurance policies is affected by taking an assignment. Some may be invalidated by either living or working in certain parts of the world, or taking part in certain activities.

If the agency does not offer sufficient insurance cover, you may be able to arrange cover yourself, see Insurance companies
